Happy Favourites of the Week – Calming Candles in the Sun

The beautiful sunny days – I haven’t spent many days outdoors, only a couple, but I’ve enjoyed my fair share of the sun whilst working and staring out the window. My cats are enjoying it even more than I, and it warms my heart even more!

Zamir’s Bunker Buddies – This song is not my favourite in the world, but its message is to the point.

How #MeToo Revealed The Central Rift Within Feminism Today – This article is brilliant to raise discussion and awareness in different opinions about feminism. My favourite part was about Federici’s Wages for Housework campaign, which as an idea feels absurd, but then again most of the housework is done by women who rely on their husbands to provide for them and treat with respect. It might not be the answer, but it does raise a problem that we are facing when discussing equality.

Ruby – I just finished this book which I couldn’t put down. It was absorbing, even though many parts of it made me really sad and angry, but the other side was so beautiful. Reading it was definitely a rollercoaster for emotions and still I recommend everybody to read it!

Northern Light – This is the first time I am reading Philip Pullman, and the only reason I am reading it is the big commotion around his writing when he published the Book of Dust. I didn’t think I would like the book quite as much as what the hype was, but since I started the book I don’t want to put it down, I am so enthralled in the story! It is almost as though the book is my daemon and I can’t be away from it. It’s a shame I didn’t read the story when I was young! And I found the second book from the trilogy in a charity shop so I can keep reading the story instantly!

New soy candle – I’ve been very nervous in the last week because of few problems. There’s been this knot in my stomach and my mind has been wandering without being able to focus on anything. The only thing that could ease my mind was doing some yoga, but especially when I light up the candle I received from my fiance a couple weeks ago. The scent is so delightful and calming that I can just sit smelling it and I feel my head emptying. I need to get more of them!

What’s Wrong With My Succulent – This post is what I’ve been looking for for a while now. Although succulents seem to be the one plant that I can keep alive best, I’ve had a few die on me and felt helpless. This post though answered all my questions in a very simple way and even the comment box was hugely helpful. So if you have succulents check it out!!

Spring Clean – I am not big for cleaning, but I hate when all the corners are full of random stuff. Yesterday we finally started our spring clear out (it might take several weeks) and went through our closet that is full of things that we don’t need anymore. We took 4 bags of clothing that we wouldn’t wear any longer (and that accumulated into those bags for the past 3 years) to the local charity who seemed very happy for the donation. I wish there was a better system in place so that I know these garments will be recycled, but until then this is the best option.

Organic Beauty Week – Although I am always trying to research new things about sustainability and wellbeing, weeks like fashion revolution week and organic beauty week help me to concentrate the research at that point. Organic beauty week helped me to learn about organic beauty certifications and feel more confident with the beauty brands that I use.

Glasgow Coffee Festival – Last weekend I visited the Glasgow Coffee Festival which was quite an exciting event of trying different types of coffee from various Scottish coffee roasters, a lovely local tea by Pekoetea, kombucha made by a locals and new local chocolate makers, Rebel, that have reduced the added sugar compared to the high street chocolate and instead added protein to make it more nourishing for the body. And it was the first time I got to try some Matcha latte, I am not sure yet whether I like it or not.

Happy Favourites of the Week – International Women’s Day

Snow – There are good and bad things with the snow, but as I try to look at the positive in my daily life, I choose to enjoy the few extra days that I could spend at home with my other half, cosying with hot drinks and looking out at the beautiful scenery. The bad stuff, you can read either in my blog post about why we should be grateful for having a home or check my Instagram account.

iZombie – The funny thing is that I can’t stand watching zombie related movies or tv-shows (still for some reason I’ve seen way too many…). I feel uncomfortable watching them and it’s also why it’s taken so long to start watching iZombie. But my friend talked me into watching it and now I’m hooked. Although, one night, after watching the show for way too long, I saw dreams of zombies the whole night and it frustrated me a lot. Now I try to do something else right before going to bed!

International Women’s Day – Celebrating a day that celebrates all women is awesome, isn’t it! I was so inspired by all the empowering messages on Instagram and the girl power going on there. It brings a smile on my face every time I check Instagram.

Succulent Gift – I also love a present I got from my fiance for the women’s day. He brought me two little succulent plants. So cute and a gift that will bring me happiness for a long time!

Seeing the Musical Priscilla – My friend gave me a present of taking me to a theatre to see the musical Priscilla and it was fabulous! The musical was very well done, with great singers and actors, absolutely amazing costumes and with so much laughter. Even though it wasn’t an audience participation show, the whole audience was involved. There was whistling, clapping, hurrays, laughing, so much fun!

New From Lush – I’ve been out of my favourite Lush products for a while now, but now finally that the snow melted I could go and get the items I was desperately needing; shampoo, cuticle cream – can’t live without them! Also now my bathroom smells like Lush again!

Happy Favourites of the Week – Books and New Year

Alias Grace – Not the Netflix show but the book. The show looks so enticing I had to have and read the book before watching it. Santa obliged and I am almost halfway through the book already and can’t stop reading it is so interesting!

Exploding Kittens – My sister introduced me to this game a while back when she last visited me and since then I’ve had the feeling that it would be a nice addition to our slowly growing board and card game collection. Finally, during the Christmas break, I just had to have it and I ordered one and we’ve been playing it a lot ever since. Funnily, the game is so quick, even with my very competitive nature I don’t mind losing the game as new one will be played soon.

Lovely Holiday Time – As the last happy favourites were before Christmas and this one is long overdue it might as well include the lovely time I had while on break. Christmas and New Years were both lovely, quiet and relaxed. We played a lot of board games, saw some of our friends and I completely lost my sleeping rhythm having to painfully try to get back to it now. I enjoyed long mornings with a book and a coffee and delicious food with cheese nearly every day. I rarely let myself relax quite this much, and managed to finish two books, which I had prolonged for way too long, by the end of the first week of January.

The next set of reading – As I finally finished three books that I had been reading for ages I started a whole new selection of books. I didn’t use to read so many at the same time but find it helpful for different situations. I don’t like to read anything too exciting in the evening as then I won’t sleep, but the Sex and World Peace is a course book for international relations, which doesn’t leave me imagining what will happen next when I am trying to sleep. And I don’t often want to carry a heavy or thick book with me when I am travelling so I am always reading some ebook on my phone. At the moment it is A Gentleman in Moscow.

New plant book – I’ve been wanting a book about plants for so long and as you might’ve read in the goals post I finally received one. Now I should have a better understanding of how to take care of my succulents!

Delicious Food at Nan Tuk – Our newest favourite place to eat in Glasgow is Nan Tuk which offers tapas style Asian food. The food is delicious and the “tapas” style portions are quite big. Two portions are enough to get you full and satisfied.

Finally back to yoga again – It is one of my goals to get back and used to yoga. I almost went earlier on but my cold came back right on the day when I was planning it. This time it was no stopping me and the feeling afterwards and during was great! Now my muscles are sore but happy!

Hopscotch soy wax candle review

It’s not too long since I ordered the little parcel from Hopscotch with a soy wax candle and beautiful tear drop paper clips. And the order was not too early. Although we still enjoy some sunny days, it has become pretty cold and evenings are very dark so it is the perfect time to cosy up with a candle to read a book or watch a movie! After lighting the Hopscotch candle on a couple of nights I now have some thoughts on it that I wish to share with you.

Hopscotch soy wax candle review - byLiiL

It looks nice and high quality in its glass jar with the golden lit and minimalistic design. So even though I don’t burn it all the time, it still looks nice standing on my shelf. And excellent in pictures!

It really has a long burning time. I’ve already burned it several days and I’ve maybe gone through one-fifth of it and I have the smaller 135g size. Many more nights of burning this candle in the horizon then!

When opening the lid you can smell the lovely slightly citrusy scent, which is so relaxing. Apparently, bergamot oils have been used to reduce anxiety, so definitely excellent for some relaxation!

When burning the candle the scent is faint. So excellent for somebody who doesn’t want a strongly scented candle, although I would’ve wished for a slightly stronger scent! In addition, it smells cleaner than a regular paraffin wax candle, when burning. Not sure if this is just a placebo effect.

In conclusion, I love this candle but wish it had a stronger scent when burning. Definitely, will buy from Hopscotch again and dreaming now of the cedar and pine candle! If you want to try your own check Hopscotch website here!

DIY recycle candle holders

I love using beautiful candles (now prefer soy wax ones, as you might have noticed), however, I do not like throwing out the glass holders. I am not too good at making my own candles, so I had to come up with something else to use them for, and I did. I recycled them into flower pots.

I found the most difficult part of reusing candle holders the left over wax. It turns out, it is not that difficult after all.

  1. Put the holder into a freezer for few hours and then the wax should start chipping out.
  2. Wash up with soap.
  3. Let it dry properly.
  4. Paint on it with glass paints if you wish to make it look different.

Succulents - aloe and money tree - byLiiL

I liked the glass look, so I just put some fresh soil in it and planted my two succulents in. The new aloe succulent and this little money tree baby. Voila! Now I have my two new flower pots!

Happy Favourites of the Week – mint green phone and feminism

My new phone cover

I know my phone is new and to keep it in good condition I like to use a phone cover. I didn’t realise I would like using one, but actually I prefer using it this way. It feels more sturdy and secure, as well as good in my hand. I love how cheerful the colour makes me as well!

Finished book

I just finished the book Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It was brilliant! It made me think and read it much quicker than I could have imagined. The world seemed so ubiquitous and absurd.

Suffragette

Well until I watched Suffragette and realised the world has actually been close to that before and probably still is in some parts of the world. Suffragette wasn’t the most brilliant movie ever, but it was important. I am ashamed at how oblivious I’ve been to women’s rights and conditions at that time. It makes me so much more thankful for how far along we have come!

I can start a new book!

After finishing the book I can now start reading How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran, so exciting!

New greenery

We had a visit to Ikea to get some plants and frames, and I couldn’t be happier! A new succulent just makes the house look so much greener!

Chocolate

This sea salted dark chocolate is heaven! I’m totally in love ❤
