Should I change to natural cleaning products and do I have the energy to do that change has been on my mind for a long time, but with everything else going on in my life I haven’t had the chance to sit down and properly investigate the question. What made me question the mainstream cleaning products in the first place where the chemical smell of the cleaning products and the warning signs at the back. After reading the information from the labels I got even more concerned. When products are harmful to aquatic life, can be irritating or even have warnings on toxicity it makes me wonder whether I really want to use such products in my own household.
I didn’t have to do a lot of research to find out that most mainstream cleaning products although claim being safe to use in your home can be very toxic and can be harmful to your health, to your children and pets health, not even talking about the environmental health. Last time I was looking for laundry detergent I couldn’t find a single product that didn’t say “harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects”. When these chemicals go down our drains, they are treated in the sewers, however, not all chemicals break down during this treatment and they end up in our waterways polluting the aquatic life and the waters themselves. Not sustainable and not sure how safe it is for my or for my pets health!
There are many more natural cleaning products on the market now, however, as words like “eco” “natural ingredients” and “bio” are very trendy now, I would check the labels whether they really are what they say to be. At the moment I am experimenting with the brand Ecover, which for now seems to work okay, however, with all the articles online I am inclined to try out some of the home-made cleaning products and see how they would work.
