Happy Favourites of September 2018

Published on October 10, 2018October 10, 2018 by byliil2 Comments

I know this is coming a bit late. The beginning of October was fairly hectic for me and I don’t see an end to that, but I guess that is a good thing. September was not full of adventures, actually, it was about getting back into a regular routine, which I am still trying to do. Working as a freelancer partly from home and partly elsewhere, as well as having a part-time job and having other projects doesn’t really leave much room for a routine, but I can strive for one!

Zero Waste week – It is so inspiring to see people coming together and coming up with ways to minimise waste they produce and encourage others to do.

Lunch With a Friend – I had lunch with a friend and had such a delicious meal, but what I was more impressed about was my friend who started talking about all the eco-choices she had made in her life and home among other that she had become a vegetarian. It was really inspiring!

Rebecca – A book by Daphne Du Maurier. It is Emma Watson’s book club book of this month, which I was more than happy about as I had recently acquired it from a charity shop. I wasn’t sure at first if I would like it, but I find it hard to put the book down!

New by Robert Galbraith – The long-awaited next installation of the Strike series is out. After it was out only a week I suddenly had the feeling that I need to check when it is coming out and to my surprise, it was out already. So it was an instant order and now I can’t wait to start reading it, right after I’ve finished Rebecca!

Morning stretch – I’ve tried regular morning stretches and warm-ups before and always noticed how it helps to wake up my body for the day, however, for some reason I seem to go off this routine. This time I’ve kept it for two months now and I can see how my body feels better on the days when I do it. It’s not going back now!

Reading

7 Chakra Personality Types – Even if you are not spiritual there is wisdom in understanding different character types. It helps you understand why other people do things you wouldn’t understand and appreciate them more. This article explains the different personality traits beautifully!

Why I Wear No Logos – Terumah writes how she doesn’t want branded products with logos. When all these years we’ve been used to being pressured by the media to want to have the image of certain brands, it’s quite freeing to think that we can be read without brand logos.

Watch/Listen

Podcast with Lily Cole – Interesting to hear about her life and how she became an advocate for sustainable fashion.

Emma Watsons Interview with Rupi Kaur – Very inspiring and interesting to hear how the book came about and about feminism from these two.

How was your September? And what are your plans for October?

With love,

Lii

Kitten Fridays - today this little boy was neutered 😬 everything thankfully went well and he's back to his beautiful, cheerful, little naughty, affectioned self. Leaving him at the vet and hearing about the procedure (which is not really an invasive surgery especially for male cats) left me wondering if I'm doing the wrong thing stripping him off his right to reproduce. But knowing of all the cats on the streets who don't have a home and struggle during the cold winter months in the UK or any other countries makes me believe it is the right thing.
Happy Valentine's Day ❤️
"The conduct of the individual multinationals is simply a by-product of a broader global economic system that has steadily been removing almost all barriers and conditions to trade, investment and outsourcing. If companies make deals with brutal dictators, sell of their factories and pay wages too low to live on, it's because there is nothing in our international trading rules to prevent them." Naomi Klein in No Logo
What positive changes are you making? Whether it is to be more sustainable, lessen your waste or just working on yourself? ❤️ In January, on top of calculating my carbon emissions I tried some zero waste alternatives such as bamboo toothbrush, natural dry shampoo and another zero waste deodorant. To hear my thoughts on them check the resent blog post on my sustainable journey. On top of that I worked on myself; I paid attention on drinking more water, I did daily morning yoga and meditation sessions among other things that would benefit my health and wellbeing. My mental health was overjoyed with the overload of reading I did, as I finished 8 books. ❤️ Unlike maybe many, I didn't do proper planning for the year, other the goals I've mentioned. I started working on them slowly when my brain was up for it, and now I feel much more excited to get things going! 📸 Min An from pexels
It's that time of the year - flowers are slowly starting to pop out again. Can't wait for spring to fully start! Are you enjoying winter or looking forward for the spring?
"In the eyes of a Buddhist, maitri is authentic and pure love. It means to feel ccompassion, kindness, goodwill, and love toward all human beings, equally,, without any exceptions -- including our partners." wrote Elayane Youssef on @elephantjournal This valentine's Day why not share your love for strangers too? There are plenty of people who require love and care, and the end are many simple ways to do it. Offer company for lonely people, gift sanitary or beauty products @thebeautybanks to local shelters, get a warm drink to a homeless person, sponsor a child in a third world country. What else can you think of that could help others and show that you care? 📸Pexels
