What I Was Up To In June

I can’t believe June is already over! This has been a month of reflection for me. I’ve been working more from home and being in my solitude really makes me think! I can influence what I think about with podcasts that I listen while I work or with articles that I read on my free time, however, reading and listening to all the challenges we face with making the planet to be a better place for all and learning about oppression to so many different groups of people can often make me a bit sad before it pushes me into action.

Straws - Eco-Friendly or Healthy?

Due to the reflection, I wrote more about what was going on in my head such as are summer bucket lists necessary and can you fake body confidence. Especially the latter one is a topic that I don’t even like to talk about to my close group of people, but something that I think about and struggle with often. Don’t you think that writing things down just makes more space and sense in your head? Unlike speaking about things, when I write I really dig deep into why I am feeling a certain way, talking is not as easy.

This month I have also been really tapping into sustainability in general. It’s quite unbelievable how many layers such topic can have. In June I wrote about Honest Rosie – a capsule wardrobe, I shared articles on sustainability and problems with charities, I shared an amazing recycling website Earth 911, I wrote about the sustainability of straws and OneSqin – organic tampons and skincare, and education for girls. Talking about education, which was my inspiration of the month after reading ‘I Am Malala’, I’ve been educating myself on photoshop, start-ups, sustainability and feminism. I couldn’t be more excited and I feel I don’t have enough time for all of my interests!

Uncovering The Secrets Behind Fashion Sizing - byLiiL

This month I started a new thread of posts about fashion and some sustainability issues with it. The first post was about fashion sizing, more or less to explain why we struggle with finding garments that fit us, but I will be tapping into more sustainable topics in fashion soon as well. In addition, I shared my favourite Insta pics from May and how I love pink evening skies.

I still don’t know what July will be like, most likely quite similar to June, as all my summery plans are for August. But you never know what opportunities reveal themselves and I plan to live in the moment!

What did you do in June? And what are your plans for July?

Happy Favourites of the Week – Entertainment

Arrival – I’ve wanted to see this movie since last November! I love sci-fi movies, actually, almost anything to do with space is up my alley. I finally saw Arrival last weekend and it didn’t disappoint! It is quite funny. I had high hopes for the movie and it was almost better than I could have hoped, although, very different. I was expecting it to be a sci-fi thriller, but instead, it was an intelligent take on language and communication, which was really fascinating and had me thinking about the topic for days since!

Orphan Black – I am sure I have written about this series before and how excited I am about it. I’ve been waiting for the 5th season to start for the whole spring and finally, my wait is rewarded with an exciting final season of the show!

OneSqin Achieved Their Kickstarter – Hurray! It is always amazing to hear about a company that has an exciting mission and a product to succeed.

Orange is the New Black – Another show that I have been waiting for ages, and I am sure many of you have as well.

Peonies – I wanted to get peonies to brighten my home last summer, but couldn’t find them anywhere. A week ago I finally managed to acquire a bouquet of them and am now in awe staring at them and smelling them.

Ladies Who Lunch Podcast – This podcast is by YouTubers Ingrid Nilsen and Catrific. They discuss important matters such as mental health, sexuality, relationships and there is still much more coming. They discuss things from their perspectives; their own experiences, how they see these things and sometimes they bring in other people with whom they can discuss the topics as well. What I found great about this podcast is how open they are for different opinions and that I can get a new perspective to different matters. I love listening to podcasts while I am working on something manual (such as sewing or manipulating pictures), as it does not disturb me from what I am doing and I still get a lot out of it.

I Am Malala – I wrote about being inspired by this book just last Wednesday and I recommend it to everybody. It is not the most positive book, but it tells you so much about a culture which is so foreign to us and helps understand the world a little bit more.

I am really wondering how I can get any work done with all the tv-shows, peonies and books, but somehow I have managed to slot everything in. I hope you had a great week! Let me know in the comments box down below what were you up to this week and what were your happy favourites, I would love to hear them!

Happy Favourites of the Week – Sweet and Sweaty Treats

Homemade lemonade – The ultimate summer drink, which I can’t stop drinking. The store bought versions are too sweet and not quite zingy enough for me, so we made our own and it’s delicious!

Spiders are back – I remember around a year ago writing in my happy favourites about spiders being back which meant spring and summer times. And now they are back again. One of them seems to enjoy my kitchen window and has spent two days on it going up and down the window. I don’t usually really enjoy spiders presence, but it seems cheerful of the summer time coming, so I am as well.

OneSqin is getting more ahead – There is an article by Ethical Unicorn that wrote about OneSqin as well. If you haven’t seen my post about them, you can read it here. In short, OneSqin is a company that sells organic tampons and creams and the profits go to help educate girls. They are on Kickstarter now and I really hope they will be able to make it!

Salted Caramel Ice Cream – It’s my favourite at the moment and I could eat a pack of this a day and stay happy!

Visiting friends – I’ve had several friends visiting in Glasgow the past couple of weeks and it’s been a pleasure to spend time with them again! To our luck, we had great weather so we spend it on a terrace drinking cocktails and eating, chatting and enjoying the sun. Thankfully, getting burned only a little bit!

Super Sweaty Yoga class – The weather did its trick and we were sweaty before we started the power vinyasa. One and a half hour of movements where your mind and body is fighting back due to the heat and by the end of it the laughs and smiles that you got through the class. The rest of the day felt really elevating!

The Pink Evenings – I absolutely love watching the sky, which can be noticeable from my Instagram pics, and especially lately with the pink skies that have decorated every evening with the most beautiful colour dance on the horizon. I could stare at it for hours! Definitely the best thing about living high on a hill on the top floor! As you can see all the pictures are literally from the same spot because it is the best place to take pictures of the pink evening sky. I really need to find another one as well!

Making My Own Scent – Since I started buying oils I’ve really been into making my own scent by mixing them. I am not too good at it yet, mostly I can’t make the scent stay for the whole day, so I still need to do more experiments and read on the topic, but I’ve managed to make a lovely scent that I like to wear (and build up) throughout the day! Making my own scent I don’t have to buy perfumes from the store, most of which are not cruelty-free! And I get to experiment and find the scents that I love, which is SO fun!

Inspiration of the Month – OneSqin

There are times when the inspiration comes from the weirdest places. This time I was scrolling through the Kickstarter page looking if there is anything interesting there. And in the midst of all the other projects, I found the OneSqin project which moved me and made me really want to backup their project. Let me tell you a little bit about it!

Inspiration of the Month - OneSqin - byLiiL

OneSqin is not a charity, but as they say, rather “a business that channels purchasing power towards social change”.

“The first health and beauty brand donating 100% of profits to provide life changing education for girls in need”

This project, or rather a business, is about empowering girls who live in poverty. The company sells organic tampons, organic t-shirts and 100% natural al purpose skin cream, and with the profits they help the girls. All their products are sustainably produced, carefully researched and cruelty-free.

Buying from OneSqin you provide the girls in poverty with a chance to stay in school, access health services and delay marriage and childbirth. This will assist the girls to grow up into independent women, who can support their families and their local community and build a future away from poverty.

As you probably realised this is a Kickstarter project that can be backed up until 8th of June. So plenty of time to put your money into something great! There are a lot of options to choose from, which can reward you as well as the company and the girls. The Kickstarter is to help the business launch and to see what else they have in mind. So go back them up, I sure will!

Pics are from the OneSqin Kickstarter page.

What is inspiring you this month?
