Happy Favourites of the Week – Entertainment

Arrival – I’ve wanted to see this movie since last November! I love sci-fi movies, actually, almost anything to do with space is up my alley. I finally saw Arrival last weekend and it didn’t disappoint! It is quite funny. I had high hopes for the movie and it was almost better than I could have hoped, although, very different. I was expecting it to be a sci-fi thriller, but instead, it was an intelligent take on language and communication, which was really fascinating and had me thinking about the topic for days since!

Orphan Black – I am sure I have written about this series before and how excited I am about it. I’ve been waiting for the 5th season to start for the whole spring and finally, my wait is rewarded with an exciting final season of the show!

OneSqin Achieved Their Kickstarter – Hurray! It is always amazing to hear about a company that has an exciting mission and a product to succeed.

Orange is the New Black – Another show that I have been waiting for ages, and I am sure many of you have as well.

Peonies – I wanted to get peonies to brighten my home last summer, but couldn’t find them anywhere. A week ago I finally managed to acquire a bouquet of them and am now in awe staring at them and smelling them.

Ladies Who Lunch Podcast – This podcast is by YouTubers Ingrid Nilsen and Catrific. They discuss important matters such as mental health, sexuality, relationships and there is still much more coming. They discuss things from their perspectives; their own experiences, how they see these things and sometimes they bring in other people with whom they can discuss the topics as well. What I found great about this podcast is how open they are for different opinions and that I can get a new perspective to different matters. I love listening to podcasts while I am working on something manual (such as sewing or manipulating pictures), as it does not disturb me from what I am doing and I still get a lot out of it.

I Am Malala – I wrote about being inspired by this book just last Wednesday and I recommend it to everybody. It is not the most positive book, but it tells you so much about a culture which is so foreign to us and helps understand the world a little bit more.

I am really wondering how I can get any work done with all the tv-shows, peonies and books, but somehow I have managed to slot everything in. I hope you had a great week! Let me know in the comments box down below what were you up to this week and what were your happy favourites, I would love to hear them!

Happy Favourites of the Week – Sweet and Sweaty Treats

Homemade lemonade – The ultimate summer drink, which I can’t stop drinking. The store bought versions are too sweet and not quite zingy enough for me, so we made our own and it’s delicious!

Spiders are back – I remember around a year ago writing in my happy favourites about spiders being back which meant spring and summer times. And now they are back again. One of them seems to enjoy my kitchen window and has spent two days on it going up and down the window. I don’t usually really enjoy spiders presence, but it seems cheerful of the summer time coming, so I am as well.

OneSqin is getting more ahead – There is an article by Ethical Unicorn that wrote about OneSqin as well. If you haven’t seen my post about them, you can read it here. In short, OneSqin is a company that sells organic tampons and creams and the profits go to help educate girls. They are on Kickstarter now and I really hope they will be able to make it!

Salted Caramel Ice Cream – It’s my favourite at the moment and I could eat a pack of this a day and stay happy!

Visiting friends – I’ve had several friends visiting in Glasgow the past couple of weeks and it’s been a pleasure to spend time with them again! To our luck, we had great weather so we spend it on a terrace drinking cocktails and eating, chatting and enjoying the sun. Thankfully, getting burned only a little bit!

Super Sweaty Yoga class – The weather did its trick and we were sweaty before we started the power vinyasa. One and a half hour of movements where your mind and body is fighting back due to the heat and by the end of it the laughs and smiles that you got through the class. The rest of the day felt really elevating!

The Pink Evenings – I absolutely love watching the sky, which can be noticeable from my Instagram pics, and especially lately with the pink skies that have decorated every evening with the most beautiful colour dance on the horizon. I could stare at it for hours! Definitely the best thing about living high on a hill on the top floor! As you can see all the pictures are literally from the same spot because it is the best place to take pictures of the pink evening sky. I really need to find another one as well!

Making My Own Scent – Since I started buying oils I’ve really been into making my own scent by mixing them. I am not too good at it yet, mostly I can’t make the scent stay for the whole day, so I still need to do more experiments and read on the topic, but I’ve managed to make a lovely scent that I like to wear (and build up) throughout the day! Making my own scent I don’t have to buy perfumes from the store, most of which are not cruelty-free! And I get to experiment and find the scents that I love, which is SO fun!

Happy Favourites of the Week – The Happy Day

New client – It’s always fun and motivating to start a new project and this was no different. It made me take my time more seriously so that I have enough of it for the new client and the other projects I have going.

My new work chair – I used to work sitting on a stool and believe me if you sit on a stool for several hours your back will be sore. So I finally went and got myself a supporting chair to work on and it has made all the difference! It is supportive, comfortable and the colour and the style makes me smile! Of course, the cats love it as well and during the hot days we had there they were rather sleeping on that chair.

Miroslava Duma launches Fashion Tech Lab with $50 Million To Invest – It is amazing to hear how the big names in fashion want to transform it and help it grow into a more sustainable market!

The Orphan Master’s Son – This book by David Mitchell has been so interesting, it nearly keeps me of work. Definitely worth a read!

Brunch with a Friend – It’s always lovely to spend some time catching up with your friends and who doesn’t like brunch? I had the loveliest meal at Kember and Jones, who really do make a nice and good sized side salad for your sandwich! And no, I didn’t take pictures. Sometimes you can just enjoy the food!

Lucky Clover – My sister gifted me with the cutest thing! It was a little pot with three seeds to grow my own lucky clover. Somebody knows what I like… It had this little pallet of soil, which I added into a little bit of water and it swelled to fill the whole miniature pot. Now it’s growing and it is so exciting! I just love seeing the plants I have been caring for growing!

2017 Ethical Activist Book Club – I just stumbled upon this and got so excited. I love reading books and knowing more about how to make our planet more ethical and sustainable is always on my agenda. There are only 6 books on the list for 2017, so one book for every two months. That should be manageable!

Strange man stroking a cat – While working at my desk I looked outside where I saw a cat walking on the pavement. It had come out of the house next to it. It was a sunny day, so it is no wonder the cat was yearning to get out. Along the pavement walked a man towards the cat. Usually, people don’t pay attention to cats, or cats quickly run away and hide, but this time it was not the case. The man kneeled down next to the cat and started stroking it. The cat seemed so happy it dropped on its side and started rolling on it’s back to get some tummy rubs, a sign that the cat is happy. I was sure this man was no stranger to the cat, as no cat would let a stranger touch their tummy. In a few seconds, the man rose up and kept walking away from the cat. Not into the house from where the cat came but kept going along the pavement and the cat the other way. It seems these two strangers just shared a nice moment in the middle of a sunny beautiful day.

The Happy Day – Once I started writing this post I realised I had nothing to add up. For some reason, I didn’t feel happy about anything and it made me anxious. I usually find happiness in the smallest of things and suddenly I just couldn’t think of anything. I gave it a couple of days and I started adding something to this post by force, just to have something to say. Until the happy day came and suddenly I wanted to fill this post with writings of all kind. Suddenly I remembered the happy things from several days previously. Everything seemed to make me happy. I think these are the days that we live for, the happy days. When every little detail makes you smile and you are just happy to be alive and living in the current moment!

What is your happy day like?

Happy Favourites of the Week – New Found Motivation

Eating from my new dishes – I’ve been dreaming of these dishes for so long and finally, my mum got them for me as a present. Oh, the happiness eating and drinking out of them the first time. These are Finnish design dishes by a company Iittala and illustrated by Klaus Haapaniemi, who is my favourite illustrator. I’ve yearned for such a long time to have some item with his illustration and now I do. I absolutely love them!

A game of Mikado – How fun is this game?! I remember playing this as a child with my neighbours grand-daughter. We had so much fun! But now as an adult when I picked the game I just couldn’t understand the fun in it. Until we picked it up last weekend when we were too lazy to do anything else and the game was so much fun! Also, it didn’t trigger my inner competitiveness, which is always a plus for anybody who is playing games with me.

A Man Creates Gardens for Unwanted Bees, Grows Free Food in 30 Abandoned Lots – Inspiration for everybody! How to help the planet and other human beings!

Until The Ribbon Breaks – I have been obsessed with this band. I found out this band in a funny way. My boyfriend was watching a teaser for the NHL playoffs and the only reason I glanced at the screen was that I recognised a song to be some cover for the Blondie “One Way Or Another” song. I really liked the cover version, used Soundhound to find out who this cover was by and since then I have been listening to this band!

The Next Generation of Jobs Won’t Be Made up of Professions – I’ve been questioning for some time now why isn’t education, politics and careers following in the footsteps of change in the world. It is great to read that some do!

Be Obsessed with Yourself – This post was so uplifting, positive and a great self-confidence booster. Read it and practice it!

Long weekend – It is rare to have so much time with my other half, but last weekend was a wonderful time to just enjoy each others company. Long mornings with time to enjoy coffee and breakfast are just such an amazing treat!

New found motivation – I don’t know if it is because I just finished the book “Big Magic” or if I finally got over my winter blues, but I finally found some inane inspiration and motivation for my work and the feeling that I don’t want to procrastinate but actually do the work is amazing! Also, I really did enjoy Big Magic, it was wonderfully light-hearted. The best advice in the book “Don’t take yourself too seriously!”

Happy Favourites of the Week – Coffee and Tea

Sunny Day – I can’t remember how many times I’ve actually added sunny days in my happy favourites sections, but it is the one thing that makes me very happy! I left work for another day and went out for a several hour walk and a coffee outside. The sun just nourishes you from inside!

Yoga – I’ve added this into happy favourites before as well. Combined with the sunshine yoga made me feel happy and calm. I actually fell asleep in one very good class. I felt so zen and relaxed! Fortunately, I didn’t start snoring but just dozed in and out of consciousness.

Figure Skating Championship 2017 – I love watching figure skating and the championship is watching the best from the best. Always exciting!

Liquorice and Peppermint Tea – A new Lidl opened close by to our house just a couple weeks ago and I found this amazing tea from there! I love peppermint tea, but sometimes I like something different and this is just the perfect evening tea. The liquorice adds that little bit of sweetness to it as well. Yumm!

Greenery Coffee Table – I am absolutely in love with this coffee table that is easy to make yourself and it is filled with greenery! How lovely would such a coffee table be! I am filing this into my archives to make once I have a space for a coffee table!

“When the Sky Meets the Earth” At Bikini Berlin – A gorgeous installation and a video. The colours are just lovely and I am very sad that I am not visiting Berlin at this time!

Happy Favourites of the Week – Tools of Relaxation

Anniversary – My one-year anniversary blogging and I’ve written 100 posts. So exciting!

Godson – My godson was born and I just can’t wait to see him. He is going to be the most spoiled and sustainably educated child!

TV-shows – I’ve been a bit stressed lately with a lot of deadlines so I balanced it up by watching a lot of TV while not working. Will and Grace was a great comfort. I just can’t stop laughing at Karen and Jack. Juana Inés is a very inspiring show about a woman who really wants to read and study when that isn’t common for a woman. Project Runway for something else light to watch.

Fox – There is more than one fox living in our neighbourhood. It’s an absolute delight to come upon them whenever I am walking out. Wildlife brings me such joy!

Two books – I’ve finished two books, since the last happy favourites of the week, both of which I enjoyed. My life on the road was definitely eye opening and a revelation not only into feminist issues but into minorities issues in the USA especially and politics. The Career of Evil was my ultimate relaxation while being stressed. I just wanted to go back to the book at all times and after reading it I kept yearning for more!

New products – I’ve wanted to try new micellar water and toothpaste for a while now. So I was super excited when my orders arrived. More about them soon!

Happy Favourites of the Week – The big little things

The big little things

For Christmas, we got money with which we bought a new bed, a side table for me and a laundry basket. Simple things, but oh the joy! The bed has underneath drawers which fit in them so much stuff. The organisational freak inside me got a treat when I got to organise all out drawers again and make our house a much more organised and neater looking space. But the most excited I am for the laundry basket. It is neat and tidy looking and fits a lot inside. We used to use a big Ikea bag before, which I didn’t want to keep in the room, but we were too lazy to put the laundry into the walking wardrobe either, so this has finally solved the problem and I am so happy with the new found neatness in our flat!

Reading my new books

It took me 2 and a half months to read a book in the end of the year 2016, so when at Christmas I finally had time to read I’ve finished 3 books within 3 weeks! Actually, one I finished in just 2 days. The enjoyment of reading was one of the favourite bits of my holiday and I’ve kept it up since!

I always decorate my house with flowers over Christmas, but this year only poinsettia was flowering over the holidays. My amaryllis grew and grew, but it flowered only this week. And I’ve been planning to acquire an orchid for ages now and finally I bought one that I love. I have already read instructions on how to care for it and am adamant to keep it alive!

I am loving everything jasmine at the moment! I have green tea with jasmine, which makes me so happy. And when I go to bed I use jasmine oil to fill the room with a lovely scent. Such a lovely way to go to bed! I would definitely recommend this shop if you are looking to get some jasmine oil for yourself!

What have you been loving these past few weeks?
