The Beauty Myth – The feminist book about how women are controlled with beauty. It is not news, but still, a very interesting book as it digs deep into the issues.
Get off Facebook Now – I am one of those people who really doesn’t like facebook. I talk about it pretty openly and the answer I get in return is “Oh, you are one of those people” as though there was something wrong with it. The way Facebook has developed doesn’t bring me joy anymore and it is amazing to see that there is a growing network of people who see Facebook as what it is! If you don’t know what it is, then definitely read the article!
Ekaterina: The Rise of Catherine The Great – I am quite fascinated by the Russian history and this is a tv-show on Amazon prime that tells the story about how a young but determined German girl became one of the most celebrated emperors in the Russian history. And it is a story about a powerful woman! It is filmed in multiple languages so you will need to watch it with subtitles, but I found it to be more authentic.
Doisy and Dam Date and Himalayan Salt Chocolate – This chocolate is so delicious! I don’t seem to be the only one who thinks it’s delicious, it is always out of stock in shops!
A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers – This was such a beautiful book on cultural differences, especially when considering the relationship between a man and a woman. It is a love story, a story about cultural conflicts and misunderstandings, sexual awakening and becoming independent. I would definitely recommend this book to everybody!
A Nap In the Middle Of The Day Under The Sunlight – I love naps, but rarely have time for them with my busy schedule. And naps while the sun is shining sound almost criminal when everybody else is going out to soak up all the energy they can from the rare phenomenon (rare at least in Scotland). But one day I wasn’t feeling well and went to my bed in the middle of the day to take a short nap before going to work. I woke up energised, warmed up from the sunlight in the room and immensely satisfied and happy!
A Chat With And Old Lecturer – I rarely get to talk with my old teachers without disruptions or what is going on in our lives, partly because I still hold them as authority figures in my life, although I left University a couple years ago. Our chat was short but honest and friendly, leaving me uplifted.

The Oprah speech at the Golden Globes – Inspiring women and girls all around the world to have hope and action towards ending assaults towards women and speaking out about those who do it. Who wouldn’t be inspired by this speech!
When I Tackled The Junk In My Emotional Closet, I Found My Voice – An article that discusses how we do not only collect material items to clutter our life, but also emotional once. It makes you think about what emotional junk you are still keeping with you and what you should give up so that you can live more freely.
Korres Wildrose Advanced Repair Sleeping Facial – This is a little miracle maker. In the words of Korres, “it is more than a mask and more than a night cream”. The first time I tried it I was wondering what happened to my skin as it was glowing and I looked so healthy and only after second time using it did I realise it was the facial. It is gentle, absolutely lovely and easy to use, and I will definitely be using this from now on especially when I need that extra healthy look the next day (when wouldn’t we need it?).
Greenshowroom in Berlin – I attended the greenshowroom in Berlin, which is a tradeshow for sustainable and ethical fashion. I visited many beautiful sustainable brands and was blown away by how many there already are with different beautiful items and something for everybody! I attended fashion sustain and fashion tech conferences, which were very inspirational. And I attended few evening talks and pop-up shows to round it up. It was a very busy 3 days with too little sleep and overflowing inspiration!
My birthday – I got to spend the morning in bed with delicious brunch eaten in bed as well. I got to relax, read and watch tv shows in peace and in the afternoon go out for dinner. I got the most beautiful earrings as a present and they are ethical as well, what a bonus!
How was your week? Did you do anything interesting or enjoy the little things?
Alias Grace – Not the Netflix show but the book. The show looks so enticing I had to have and read the book before watching it. Santa obliged and I am almost halfway through the book already and can’t stop reading it is so interesting!
Exploding Kittens – My sister introduced me to this game a while back when she last visited me and since then I’ve had the feeling that it would be a nice addition to our slowly growing board and card game collection. Finally, during the Christmas break, I just had to have it and I ordered one and we’ve been playing it a lot ever since. Funnily, the game is so quick, even with my very competitive nature I don’t mind losing the game as new one will be played soon.
Lovely Holiday Time – As the last happy favourites were before Christmas and this one is long overdue it might as well include the lovely time I had while on break. Christmas and New Years were both lovely, quiet and relaxed. We played a lot of board games, saw some of our friends and I completely lost my sleeping rhythm having to painfully try to get back to it now. I enjoyed long mornings with a book and a coffee and delicious food with cheese nearly every day. I rarely let myself relax quite this much, and managed to finish two books, which I had prolonged for way too long, by the end of the first week of January.
The next set of reading – As I finally finished three books that I had been reading for ages I started a whole new selection of books. I didn’t use to read so many at the same time but find it helpful for different situations. I don’t like to read anything too exciting in the evening as then I won’t sleep, but the Sex and World Peace is a course book for international relations, which doesn’t leave me imagining what will happen next when I am trying to sleep. And I don’t often want to carry a heavy or thick book with me when I am travelling so I am always reading some ebook on my phone. At the moment it is A Gentleman in Moscow.
New plant book – I’ve been wanting a book about plants for so long and as you might’ve read in the goals post I finally received one. Now I should have a better understanding of how to take care of my succulents!
Delicious Food at Nan Tuk – Our newest favourite place to eat in Glasgow is Nan Tuk which offers tapas style Asian food. The food is delicious and the “tapas” style portions are quite big. Two portions are enough to get you full and satisfied.
Finally back to yoga again – It is one of my goals to get back and used to yoga. I almost went earlier on but my cold came back right on the day when I was planning it. This time it was no stopping me and the feeling afterwards and during was great! Now my muscles are sore but happy!
How was your week?
Seeing our Godson – We did a trip to Finland again just a week ago. We have this adorable little baby godson who we wanted to see, as the last time I saw him was in April. He has grown so much and nearly walks already. It was such happiness seeing him again and playing with him. Food time seemed to be the favourite messing around time. The funniest was his surprise when his mother was able to eat in peace as we took turns feeding the little cutiepie!
Seeing family – It was lovely seeing the family as well, and this time we actually managed to see people who we haven’t seen in nearly 2 years. It was so relaxing! Although, carrying suitcases home filled with presents from home was not fun… Especially after being rescheduled on flights several times.
Getting home – So when we finally got home, after being rescheduled on to 3 different flight and missing one due to a very delayed flight, I was happy to have two whole days at home to spend it with the cats and winding down from all the ‘excitement’ of travelling. When you are on the road there is nothing more than your dream of but your own home and your own bed!
Sauna – We went to the sauna way too many times for one week! But they don’t have proper sauna’s in the UK, and you can’t even imagine how relaxing it is to take a proper sauna, sweat out all your toxins and take a cooling shower after which you feel relaxed the rest of the day! I really would’ve needed one after all the problems getting back home!
Euston Station Opening Doors For Homeless – I just read an article about how Euston station, in London, is opening their doors on Christmas for the homeless to provide them with a shelter and Christmas dinner. I think it is an absolutely amazing thing to do and more places should do this. Christmas is not only for giving to your loved ones, it is taking care of those less fortunate as well! Although, I think this shouldn’t be happening only on Christmas but whole year round!
How was your week?
Cheesy Christmas Movies – Lately I’ve been really into watching cheesy Christmas movies. I do an annoyed commentary on top of almost all of the time or smirk and laugh at the poor plot, but still there is something quite comforting in them and apparently, I am still looking for something comforting at all times! I know it’s too early, but then again I don’t really feel like being in a festive spirit just yet.
My little plant corner – I already shared a picture of my plant corner at the beginning of the week and how happy it makes me, and it still does! My little succulents are loving the light and warmth in that corner and growing much faster. In addition, we got some coconut husk soil which seems to really agree with them!
Seeing my family – It’s been a while since I last saw my family and although this trip of ours is short and doesn’t even cover Christmas it is still always lovely and rejuvenating to spend some quality time with your family. And especially seeing the little Godson again, he is already growing up so fast!
Snow – I ran away from Finland because of snow and coldness during the winter. So it is funny that snow is one of my favourites this week. But snow once a year on your holiday is lovely, especially when you get this magical scenery that we had this week. But when it will melt or there is too much of it, then it starts to get less than lovely.
December – It’s finally December and I get to cheer my loved ones up with a story advent calendar, which I have made them for the couple last years. They seem to really enjoy it and it makes me want to keep going, even when I am getting stressed with writing it the closer we get to Christmas.
How was your week?
New trinket – Although I am trying to be more sustainable, I am not really a minimalist. If I really want something and know I will have it for long or for the rest of my life I will get it. I am not one to get rid of homeware items when I get bored of them, but rather cherish each item or pass it along to a next person who can cherish it. That could be the reason for why I don’t shop homeware a lot. Buying new trinkets is actually a thing I don’t really do. But for some time now I have been looking for a Buddha’s head. I finally found one the size and shaper that I liked after searching for it for 3 years. And you know, it really does bring me joy every single time I see it under our beautiful flamingo plant!
Murder On The Orient Express – I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time and now finally it was in the cinemas so we could go and see it, and I loved it. It was beautifully done, Kenneth Branagh was absolutely brilliant and the plot was intriguing. I haven’t seen any of the previous versions of this movie or any other Hercule Poirot movies or read them, but am now really eager to do so!
Cranberry and Orange candle – While getting some Christmas presents I ordered myself a couple of soy wax candles and I absolutely fell in love with the cranberry and orange scent. These candles are made by Rainflower and this one smells like the most comforting tea which is just slightly sweetened. So lovely!!
Why I’m Not Buying The New iPhone X – There are many reasons why I wouldn’t buy the new iPhone X, or any other iPhones, but Kirsten Leo takes a sustainable and humanitarian view on why she wouldn’t buy one and explains it excellently! We should all take a second before buying new technology!
Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #11 – This was the first time I saw this Jimmy Kimmel segment and couldn’t stop laughing. It is really funny, although quite rude as well, still, it made my midday much more amusing!
New slouchy rollneck jumper – I very rarely buy clothes, so when I do I know I will get a lot of wear out of them. The slouchy rollneck jumper had been on my list for nearly two years and suddenly this week I grabbed it at the store and didn’t let go. It is the softest and the warmest jumper ever and will probably worn way too much in the cold days of this winter!
Doisy & Dam chocolates – These little packs of chocolate, although are tiny are absolutely delicious!
How was your week? Let me know in the comment box below!
Enjoying Weekends – Lately, I have been working out of my house so much that I’ve been really enjoying the time I have at home with my cats and my fiance! Suddenly weekends feel like weekends and if I have a day free in the middle of the week I am definitely out having coffee with a friend!
Seeing Good Upbringing – Unfortunately, in the UK I see poor upbringing quite often; either it’s parents shouting at their children or children behaving poorly on their own. I always think how I would never have dared to behave in such a way! So it is always a pleasure to see children brought up in a positive way. This week I saw a mum, her hands full and pulling a trolley accompanying her was a three-year-old boy. The three-year-old listened to everything she told him to do, and no surprise she didn’t boss him around or shout, she kept telling him how great he was doing with helping her and listening to her. I was such a heart-warming sight!
Blue Planet 2 – The long-awaited documentary is finally here! We love watching nature documentaries on our weekend mornings and the Blue Planet 2 was a beautiful addition to it! It is wonderfully done and although it shows the mysterious and cute animals of the world it also discusses the dangers they face due to the climate change. It is a whole package and I’ll be enjoying watching the whole thing!
New Chocolate from Almighty Foods – This delicious liquorice and salt vegan chocolate is an absolutely delicious addition from Almighty Foods! The only problem is that it costs a LOT and I could eat it in seconds!
A Lovely Autumn Walk – Although I am not a fan of dark mornings and evenings and all the rain, I love the slightly crispy bright days that we occasionally have. We had one of them yesterday and accidentally planned a walk for the day. It was beautiful and refreshing!
Pumpkins – We’ve tried to make a meal out of pumpkin before, but unsuccessfully. However, whilst trying to eat more seasonally we wanted to give pumpkin another try and managed to find a recipe for these great pumpkin burgers and came up with a delicious pumpkin risotto! We are definitely going to try these during next pumpkin season as well!
